When it comes to staycations, there's nothing quite like the picturesque charm of North Devon. For our second trip to Instow, a quaint beachside haven, I found myself grappling with the eternal dilemma: what to pack? Packing has never been my forte—it's hardly the most thrilling pre-holiday task, is it?
My idea of a perfect staycation includes long dog walks with our labrador especially beach walks, shopping sprees, and discovering delightful eateries. I’ve curated a list of stylish accessories that can keep you stylish but practical for any UK staycation. Here’s my guide to packing smart for your next trip.
Stylish Leather Bags
A single bag for a week? Impossible. This is Ruby Friday, after all! Here are the leather bags that accompanied me on this trip:The Oversized Leather Sling Bag / Bum Bag (Ella)
This versatile beauty, crafted from soft, durable leather, is a must-have. Perfect for family holidays, it effortlessly carries all those “please can you carry...” items—snacks, dog treats, poop bags, drinks. I adore its crossbody style, which makes it easily accessible without the need to constantly remove it. I chose a summery Sage green, a neutral that paired seamlessly with my outfits.

The Crossbody Camera Bag (Olive)
Never do I embark on a trip without my Olive camera bag. This leather crossbody is deceptively spacious, accommodating everything I need—even a can of Diet Coke. Available in a myriad of colors, I opted for a chic cream, a perfect summer neutral.
The Tote
I tested a new leather tote that isn’t yet available online, and it's already a favourite. I chose a stunning red and this is just one of many gorgeous colours that will be available to order. Spacious and stylish, this shoulder bag doubles as a crossbody, a fantastic addition to my ever-growing collection.

The Bum Bag (Lulu)
The petite sister to the Ella leather sling bag, this stylish leather bum bag is ideal for both day and night. It comfortably holds my essentials: phone, sunglasses, AirPods, purse, lipstick, treats, and poop bags—definitely my go-to for dog walks and those days exploring when on holiday.
The Versatile Scarf
Next up, the scarf. But not just any scarf. We’re talking about a big, versatile one that can double as so many things - a picnic blanket, a shawl, a sarong, even a belt on your jeans!

In the unpredictable British weather I relied on my black and cream animal print scarf for those times when the beach was just a little bit chilly. Perfect for those cooler mornings and evenings, it adds a splash of elegance to any outfit. Spread it out for a spontaneous picnic or wrap it around for warmth – it's your multifunctional marvel!
Trainers
Trainers are the unsung heroes of travel footwear. Comfortable for a day of exploring yet effortlessly chic, they pair perfectly with everything from jeans to summer dresses. Opt for a sleek design in a versatile colour to ensure maximum style and comfort. I confess to packing several pairs - has to be done! These are the ones I am currently coveting - my wishlist
Simple Jewellery
Lately, I’ve embraced simplicity in my jewellery choices, favouring gold or silver studs and delicate necklaces. Adding a touch of charm with bees or other cute motifs can keep it interesting. Lightweight and easy to pack, these pieces can instantly elevate any outfit.

Sunnies for the Win
In the UK, sunglasses are a non-negotiable. The sun may play hide and seek, but when it shows, you’ll be glad to have them. Choose classic cat-eye or aviator styles for maximum impact and a dash of timeless chic.
With these essentials, you’re ready to embark on a stylish UK staycation. Explore the countryside, enjoy spontaneous picnics, and make every moment count. Happy packing, and even happier exploring!
Stay fabulous,
El xx
